Indonesia enacts new labeling method involving footwear products

According to the Yiwu Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade recently promulgated a labeling method that mainly involves non-food products distributed and sold on the Indonesian market.

According to the labeling method, since July 1st this year, imported products and domestic products on the Indonesian market must be affixed with Indonesian texts, and include relevant information, covering product names or brand names, and locally produced products. The name and address of the supplier and the imported product must state the name and address of the importer and the country of origin.

In accordance with the product categories listed in the appendix of the regulations, household appliances, telecommunications, information technology equipment, building materials, motor vehicle raw materials (parts), and light textile products such as footwear, leather goods, and clothing are all included.

It is understood that the effective date of this regulation is July 2010 for products not currently sold on the Indonesian market, and December 2010 for existing products that have been distributed and sold in the country.

According to statistics from the Yiwu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, as of mid-June this year, Yiwu has completed the export of 175 batches of Indonesian merchandise, with a trade volume of more than 440 million US dollars. Last year, the number of batches of goods exported to Indonesia increased by nearly ten percentage points. Export commodities are mainly light industrial products, textile products and mechanical and electrical products.
