Application of imidacloprid in pesticide market

Imidacloprid is an ultra-efficient insecticide developed by Bayer in Germany in 1984. It is an international large-tonnage product with the market share ranking first (36.9%) of neonicotinoids, with sales of US$980 million in 2010. 2011 sales of 1.02 billion US dollars, slightly lower than thiamethoxam. The imidacloprid insecticide market is distributed in seed treatment, soil treatment and foliar treatment. The main markets for the products are seed treatment of sugar beets, cereals, corn, sunflower and cotton. Among them, as a seed treatment agent for sugar beet, a new market has been opened, and before this, there is no seed treatment agent for sugar beet. In addition to its use on crops, imidacloprid can also be used for the control of animal pests such as fleas on cats and dogs. In the United States, imidacloprid is also used for the control of lawn pests in communities, sports fields, golf courses, and the like.
Imidacloprid is the first batch of highly toxic pesticide substitutes in China. In the past 10 years, demand has been growing and it has become a hot product in the market. China's imidacloprid is mainly used to control pests in rice fields, accounting for the vast majority of the total demand for domestic imidacloprid. However, due to the fact that farmers use imidacloprid as the preferred pesticide variety for rice planthopper, the field has been used for a long time in a large area, and in recent years, rice brown planthopper has been highly resistant to it. In 2007, the Ministry of Agriculture issued a timely proposal to suspend the use of imidacloprid to control brown planthopper, which greatly reduced the demand for imidacloprid. Imidaclopridium quickly lost the large market for rice pest control, and the stock increased sharply. The problem of insecticide resistance to imidacloprid has caused widespread concern. How to digest the production capacity of domestic imidacloprid has become the focus of the market. In order to prolong the service life of imidacloprid and delay the emergence of resistance to pests, many scholars at home and abroad have conducted in-depth research on the development and mechanism of imidacloprid resistance, and proposed reasonable and effective resistance control measures.
