Known as the "first killer of the coal mine", the gas can be turned into diamonds through deep processing! Yesterday, the ultra-hard materials laboratory of Taiyuan University of Technology, Dr. Shengwang and its research team designed the CBM synthetic diamond industrial production line, and attracted a group of enterprises to seek cooperation. This technology not only leads the international market, but also breaks through the technical blockade of high-grade diamond synthesis applications in China's national defense field, and also explores a new way for our province in the field of CBM deep processing and industrial transformation and upgrading.
Diamond, which is the hardest material known to exist naturally, and has many excellent properties, is known as "a strategic material for the 21st century." Natural diamonds are rare and expensive, and are difficult to use widely in the industrial field. In recent years, diamonds produced by chemical vapor deposition have been widely used in the fields of machining, automotive, aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries. At present, China's synthetic diamond technology is relatively backward, low-end products, high cost, high-grade diamond products are basically dependent on imports. Since the application of such products involves core components in nuclear technology, outer spacecraft, and military and other key technical fields, most foreign countries have adopted embargoes to limit their application in the above-mentioned fields in China. To this end, it is urgent to improve the level of China's diamond synthesis technology and break through the predicament of high-grade diamond dependence on imports.
After four years of research and development, the team led by Dr. Sheng Wang from Taiyuan University of Technology first designed a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition diamond device, which is only one-fifth of the cost of similar foreign devices. Subsequently, they combined with the actual situation in Shanxi, and recently innovated and designed a coal-bed methane synthetic industrial production line that is both environmentally friendly and low in cost. The production line uses low-concentration coalbed methane to generate electricity, and at the same time, methane purified by high-concentration coalbed methane and hydrogen which is cleaved and purified by methane are used as raw materials to produce diamond. This technology has passed the professional testing of the China Academy of Engineering Physics. It not only leads the international market, but also breaks through the existing process bottleneck of synthetic diamond in China, which greatly reduces the cost of diamond production. The quality of the diamond produced also covers all diamond grades from the low end to the high end. At present, the project has applied for 15 invention patents and has authorized 4 projects. Its diamond products have begun to be used in defense projects such as radar and laser nuclear fusion. In the recent National Science and Technology Workers Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, this technology won the gold medal and caused great concern.
It is understood that the proven reserves and production of coalbed methane in our province account for more than 90% of the country. The development of the CBM industry is one of the important contents of the 13th Five-Year Plan of our province. The birth of this technology not only brings broad prospects for the deep processing of coalbed methane in the province, but also has great significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the traditional coal industry in our province. Dr. Yu Shengwang expects that the project will be transformed in Shanxi and form an industrial chain, so that this technological innovation will benefit the people of Sanjin.
