Steel companies bravely grab high-end market

Yesterday, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission released a report on the operating performance of central enterprises in 2006. The product structure of four central steel enterprises of Baosteel, Anshan Steel, Wuhan Iron and Steel and Panzhihua Steel was further optimized. Four iron and steel enterprises produced 56.076 million tons of steel , an increase of 11% year-on-year. Cold and heat Output of rolled sheet and galvanized sheet increased by 40.7% and 18.5%, respectively, while output of wire rod and rebar decreased by 8.1% and 14.1%, respectively.

According to industry insiders, the most prominent feature of these four central enterprises is that their products have become more and more important in the mid-to-high end of the market. At the same time, the scale of production, sales revenue, and profit levels rank among the top in the steel industry. It is reported that the proportion of special materials used by Anshan Iron and Steel Group reached 77%. The proportion of high-tech and high-value-added products of Wuhan Iron and Steel Group reached 77.3%, an increase of 20.5 percentage points year-on-year.

It is reported that last year, domestic steel enterprises surged in exports. Four central steel enterprises exported 5.184 million tons of steel each year, an increase of 39.8%.
