For most people, when buying edible oil, we often only pay attention to whether it is genetically modified, or pay attention to its price, brand, etc., and few people will pay attention to the packaging of edible oil, plastic packaging as a special food. Additives have a more or less impact on food safety. For example, what kind of material is the bottle containing the edible oil, and whether this material will affect the safety of the edible oil. Plasticizers, also commonly known as plasticizers. Plasticizers are industrially widely used polymeric material auxiliaries. Barrier performance refers to the barrier ability of packaging materials to pass through gases such as water vapor, oxygen, and nitrogen. The high-barrier packaging can isolate the oxygen in the air from penetrating into the package, and avoid the contact of the edible oil with oxygen, thus ensuring the quality and safety of the edible oil. Compared with plasticizers, which can directly affect the safety of edible oils, most consumers have heard about them. The edible oil enterprises also seriously consider them as considerations in the design of packaging materials. The barrier properties of packaging materials have an impact on edible oils. The popularity of knowledge is not very high.
Edible oil contains a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids, which are susceptible to auto-oxidation, photo-oxidation and hydrolysis during the storage process by oxygen, temperature, light, moisture and other factors to form hydroperoxide. Hydroperoxides are unstable, and begin to decompose at the same time as they form, and cleave to form compounds such as aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, acids, etc., which have a special odor. Among them, oxygen is the main influencing factor of edible oil deterioration. Therefore, antioxidants are added to the edible oil to ensure the stability of the oil. If you want to reduce or avoid the addition of antioxidants, you need to start with packaging materials to improve the oxygen barrier properties of packaging materials.
