Last year, China's thermal power coal consumption fell 3.5% compared with 2008

Zhang Ping said that in 2010 China's thermal power coal consumption fell by 3.5% compared with 2008, and the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel and the integrated electricity consumption per ton of aluminum decreased by 4% and 2.2% respectively. During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, energy consumption per unit of GDP in the country fell by 19.1%, chemical oxygen demand emissions decreased by 12.45%, and emissions of carbon dioxide* decreased by 14.29%.

He said that during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, China's average annual growth rate of 6.6% of energy consumption has supported an 11.2% annual growth of the national economy, and the energy consumption elasticity coefficient has decreased from 1.04 in the "10th Five-Year Plan" period to 0.59. The overall environmental quality is stable and some indicators have improved. In 2010, 81.7% of urban air quality above the prefecture level reached the secondary standard; the proportion of national seven-water system national control sections better than the three types of water quality increased from 41% in 2005. To 59.6%, the proportion of inferior five types of water quality in the surface water national control section dropped to 20.8%.
