Demand continues to be sluggish, Japanese machine tool exports to China fell by 36.5%

Affected by the slowdown of the Chinese economy, Japan’s exports of machine tools to China have seen a significant decline.

The machine tool order amount (determined value) released by the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association on November 22 showed that export orders to China decreased by 36.5% year-on-year, falling for eight consecutive months. Japan's domestic demand and export orders to Europe and the United States failed to make up for the decline in mainland China, the overall order volume decreased by 0.7% year-on-year, after a lapse of 23 months.

The Nikkei News reported that the president of the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association, Yuki Natsumura (the president of Toshiba Machinery) attributed the decline in orders to "China has clearly entered an adjustment situation and demand has declined." He believes that orders from China fell to the level of the 2015-2016 downturn.

In fact, since March of this year, the number of orders that Japan has sold to China has been falling. At present, the number of orders has shrunk by more than 60% from the high of 41.2 billion yen in November last year.

The Nikkei quoted the Vice President of the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association, Mr. Inaba, who is the president of the FANUC, predicting that the downturn in orders is “slow for half a year, long for 1-2 years, and the time span is large” because the last time The downturn "lasted for 14 months."
